to do 目的 通常放在主句之后,可以紧接着动词,也可以放在句尾。直接指出动作的目的,易于理解,它通常用于说明为什么某人做某事,或某事发生的原因。
结果 动词不定式作结果状语时(尤其在表示随后发生的动作时)多表示意料之外的不愉快的结果。此时常在动词不定式前加上only以进一步加强意料之外的语气。
条件 与主要句子部分形成条件关系来表示在某个条件下才会发生或进行的动作。不定式短语通常表示在满足某个条件时所要进行的行动或达到的结果。
原因 解释某个动作或情况的原因或动机,不定式短语用来说明为什么某人做某事,或者为什么某事会发生。通常跟在表示情感或状态的形容词后面。

  • Jim turned round to see that Mary was weeping. 结果看见
  • He got to the station only to be told the train had gone. 结果被告知
