萨姆来汤姆家吃晚餐，但厨房里几乎什么都没有了。汤姆给萨姆倒了一杯威士忌，因为卡罗尔既没有啤酒也没有葡萄酒，而且她也不愿意去买。七点的时候，到了吃晚餐的时间了。卡罗尔端上了烤牛肉和土豆。为什么？因为她的购物清单已经把一切都说明清楚了：家里有很多土豆，而卡罗尔去肉店买了肉。可悲的是，汤姆和萨姆已经为午餐准备好了烤牛肉和土豆。今晚他们还得再吃同样的食物！
Sam came to Tom's house for dinner, but the kitchen was nearly empty. Tom offered Sam a glass of whisky because Carol did not have any beer or wine, and she refused to buy any. At seven o'clock, it was time to have dinner. Carol served roast beef and potatoes. Why? Because her shopping list explained everything: they had a lot of potatoes at home, and Carol went to the butcher's for the meat. Sadly, Tom and Sam already had roast beef and potatoes for lunch. They had to eat the same food again tonight!
