George and his friends, Julie and Jack, went to the Town Hall on New Year's Eve. A large crowd had gathered under the Town Hall clock and they were waiting for it to strike twelve and say goodbye to this year. However, after fifteen minutes, the clock suddenly stopped at five to twelve and the big minute hand did not move. They waited for several more minutes, but nothing happened. Then someone in the crowd shouted that it was already two minutes past twelve. George checked his watch and found that it was true. Although the big clock failed to welcome the New Year, everybody on the scene began to laugh and sing together.
