乘坐（交通工具等) by bike\car\bus\train...(通过某种方式或方法)
不迟于/不晚于... I will be back by 7:30 pm.(时间、截止日期或期限)
动作的执行者（被动语态） The book was written by Jane Austen. (这本书是简·奥斯汀写的。)
被、由… 除以 Thirty divided by three is ten. 30 ÷ 3 = 10
参考点或标准 You can judge his progress by comparing it to his previous work.
(你可以通过与他之前的工作进行比较来评判他的进展。)
用、靠、通过... They can read by touch. 他们可以通过触摸来阅读。

It means I can have tea, instead.

替代选择
(在做出选择时，表示选择一个不同的选项或方案)
  • I didn't have coffee for breakfast. I had tea instead. (我早餐没有喝咖啡，而是喝了茶。)
  • She decided to go for a walk instead of watching TV. (她决定出去散步，而不是看电视。)
表示相反或对立的情况
(用来指出与已提到的事物相反的情况)
  • I expected him to be upset, but instead he was quite happy. (我以为他会生气，但相反他很开心。)
  • The weather forecast predicted rain, but it turned out to be sunny instead. (天气预报说会下雨，但实际上是晴天。)
表示与原计划或期望的不同情况
(用于表示某种改变或调整)
  • I was planning to go shopping, but I stayed home instead. (我本打算去购物，但我改变主意待在家里了。)
  • They were going to have a big wedding, but they eloped instead. (他们原计划要办一场盛大婚礼，但他们选择私奔了。)
instead 通常和介词 of 连用。例如，"instead of" 表示替代选择。此外，"instead" 也可以用作名词，表示替代物或替代者。

It means ... , instead.  这就意味着...反而...

  • It means (that) she is happier than before, instead.这就意味着她反倒比从前快乐
  • It means he loved you, instead. 这意味着他反倒是爱你的。
  • It means you don't need to do it, instead. 这就意味着你反倒不用干了。
  • It means you need to be harder, instead. 这就意味着你反倒要更努力。
